October 14: Bullying Interventions for Parents
This workshop introduces participants to definitions of bullying, how to recognize it, and how to respond to it both at home and in school. Participants will be able to define bullying behavior and distinguish it from typical peer conflict, identify your own emotional responses to the realization that your child is being bullied and discuss coping strategies for yourself, learn strategies to help your child, and learn effective ways to intervene.
November 11: Future Cares Planning Services
Beth Kosoff, Intake Specialist on the Future Care Planning Services team, will present information regarding the program’s 4-Step Planning Process for families who have a loved one with special needs. Topics will include an overview of the 17A Legal Guadianship process, the benefits of having a Supplemental Needs Trust and a Letter of Intent for the person with a disability. The target audience for this presentation is a family with a transitioning son or daughter, ages 17-21 years old. Future Care Planning Services is a partnership of the Al Sigl Community of Agencies, Lifespan of Greater Rochester and the Arc of Monroe.
December 9: Understanding OPWDD: Medicaid Service Coordination & the Home/Community Based Services Waiver
Topics covered include eligibility and access to Medicaid and the HCBS waiver. Participants learn how to partner with a service coordinator and to be actively involved in developing service plans for individuals with disabilities. Learn about the history and purpose of Medicaid, understand eligibility and how to apply for Medicaid, understand Service Coordination, understand the Home and Community Based Services Waiver, and learn about other new funding initiatives for individuals with developmental disabilities.
