AutismUp is pleased to announce two fitness programs as part of our new series “Shake It UP” that will be targeting the young adults with ASD. “Shake It UP” is a comprehensive program designed to provide fitness programs at various levels, for a variety of age groups. Its mission is to provide movement opportunities for participants through fun, structured classes in order to improve motor learning and quality of life. The goal is to identify factors that interfere with successful movement and create learning opportunities to address these limitations. Another component to “Shake It Up” will be educational opportunities which will allow families, participants and the community to learn what factors contribute to impaired movement and how to improve them.
Sundays, 2:15-3:00 PM, for ages 15-19. This program will focus on building confidence and fitness for the young women with ASD. It is designed to build strength and endurance in an exciting, non-judgmental environment so that the participants can properly move their bodies. This will allow them to build up their self-esteem to carry over into the community.
Sundays, 3:15-4:00 PM, for ages 15-19. This program will be targeted towards fitness in sport. The males in this program will not only be improving their fitness and movement, but also participating in activities that their peers are engaging in such as soccer and basketball. This program will build strength, fitness, confidence and the skills required for participation in the goal that they may be carried over to a larger setting.
