Alavarado Family Story
Thanks to AutismUp programs and events, our son has been able to get involved in activities in which he wouldn't have been able to participate otherwise.
“Our only child, Keith, was diagnosed with Autism six years ago, when he was 2 1/2 years old. We first learned about Autism Up (called UNYFEAT at that time) during an Early Intervention meeting. After joining, we started some of the family activities such as walks and hikes in area parks and family swim at Holy Childhood. Later, Keith started to participate in other programs such as Exploring Sensations, Sports Skills at Attitude Trampoline Park, Water Safety and Swimming Instruction at the YMCA, and most recently he joined the Boys Club. He really enjoys all of these programs.
Today, there is a big smile on Keith's face when you mention swimming classes or Boys Club. I also took the PEP (Parent Effectiveness Program) class, which was helpful in giving us better insight in how to approach challenging behaviors.
Thanks to AutismUp programs and events, our son has been able to get involved in activities in which he wouldn't have been able to participate otherwise. That has been very important to us. My husband and I are so grateful to have such a great organization here in our community helping families such as ours.”See all stories
