Dr. Laurence Sugarman
Dr. Sugarman is Research Professor and Director, Center for Applied Psychophysiology and Self-regulation at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He serves as a behavioral pediatrician at the Easter Seals Diagnostic and Treatment Center and Clinical Associate Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Sugarman received his MD from the University of Missouri and pediatric training at the University of Rochester. While running his solo primary care practice, Dr. Sugarman developed his expertise in therapeutic self-regulation strategies, emerging as foremost proponent of their integration into pediatric care. Prominent among his publications are the award-winning documentary, Hypnosis in Pediatric Practice and, with William Wester, the text Therapeutic Hypnosis with Children and Adolescents. His current clinical and research focus is on the role of autonomic regulation training for young people with neurodevelopmental “diffabilities.”
