Managing Instructor (Sports)

Location: AutismUp at the Golisano Autism Center Hours: Full-time, 35-40 hours a week, afternoons, evenings, and weekends (flexible schedule required)

Position Summary: The Managing Instructor will design and teach classes in both group and one-on-one settings as needed for participants with autism and other disabilities to help them achieve their goals. The Managing Instructor may oversee a designated content-specific educational track, which includes administrative tasks as assigned and can include the supervision of staff members where applicable. Responsibilities:  Directly provides and facilitates instruction and oversight to participants with various abilities in a classroom or/and community-based setting, and virtually as needed  May oversee the ongoing implementation and development of a content area in the context of a continuum of participant growth and progress.  Assists with the management of volunteers, interns, community partners, instructors, and support staff  Supervises staff as assigned  Participates in the hiring process for new staff as appropriate  Assists in ensuring supplies and equipment are adequate and up-to-date  Tracks participants’ progress and communicates accordingly with stakeholders including families  Responsible for the supervision and safety of program participants  Helps facilitate social interactions between participants in the program  Participates on the programming team’s behalf at AU events and functions, as needed  Participates in various team meetings to advance continuous assessment and improvement, and to further collaborative efforts  Attends trainings and professional development functions  Co-manages reporting as needed and assigned, including notes, metrics, incident reports and notable

Qualifications:  Bachelor degree required, a Master’s degree in relevant field and/or related certifications preferred  Experience working with individuals with ASD or other disabilities  Teaching experience  Ability to work with people  Excellent communication skills  Team Player  Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of sports.Personal Fitness Instructor

Program Assistant (Part Time and Full Time Available)

Location: AutismUp at the Golisano Autism Center, Rochester, New York

Hours: Part-time, 15-25 hours per week with some regular evening and Saturday hours that may vary

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week including afternoons, weekends, and Saturdays (flexible schedule required)

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant provides direct support to participants in programs that focus on skill development (social, enrichment, independence, fitness, self-regulation, the arts) for children, teens, and adults in classroom and community settings. This role also designs, plans and leads regular programs and classes in the role of a lead teacher. The Program Assistant will substitute for Instructors and Support Staff in their absence, and fill in as assigned to perform administrative and support functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting individual participants in achieving goals and objectives
  • Responsible for the supervision and safety of program participants
  • Supports the AutismUp Instructors and program objectives, particularly in regard to participants’ social development and behavioral management
  • Completes progress notes / metrics and other necessary documentation by the end of shift
  • Attends trainings and meetings as assigned
  • Design, plan and lead regular programs and classes in the role of a lead instructor
  • Occasionally leads classes on a rotational or substitute basis, following the lesson plan and managing the class in terms of participant oversight and support staff direction
  • Completes all other duties as directed

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma preferred; college experience in related field is helpful
  • Experience working with individuals with ASD or other disabilities is preferred
  • Enthusiastic and enjoys working with children, teens, and adults
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Ability to work late afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays
  • Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs.

Personal Fitness Instructor

Location: AutismUp at the Golisano Autism Center, Rochester, NY

Hours: Per Diem, 10-20 hours per week including some late afternoons, early evenings, and Saturdays with opportunity to increase hours to full-time.

Responsibilities:

  • Connect with each participant and/or family members to create an individualized fitness plan
  • Completes the initial Personal Fitness Instructor Intake Form within 2 weeks of each participant’s first Personal Training class
  • Coordinate and schedule individual training classes with participants and/or family members
  • Completes class scheduling, preparation, cleaning procedures, family communication, and documentation associated withPersonal Training as part of the Personal Fitness Instructor responsibilities
  • Demonstrate various exercises and routines
  • Supervise participant’s exercise routines and assist them in utilizing the correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness
  • Monitor individual goals, objectives, and progress of participant’s while providing families progress updates
  • Responsible for the supervision and safety of program participants
  • Communicate with Fitness Coordinator on participant’s progress
  • Participates in AutismUp staff trainings and in-services as directed by the Program Manager
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner
  • Works closely with the Fitness Coordinator with ensuring the AutismUp Fitness Programs remain innovative both from equipment and support perspective

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Related college degree, coursework or fitness certifications required
  • 2+ years professional experience preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with ASD or other disabilities
  • Experience/training in adaptive P.E. helpful

Lifeguard and Swim Support

Position Summary: The Lifeguard and Swim Support Staff is responsible for ensuring the safety of participants in and around the pool. The lifeguard's primary duties include monitoring swimmers, preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and providing first aid or rescue assistance when necessary. In addition the staff assists swimmers by providing guidance, encouragement, and safety support during swimming activities.

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Hours per week: Part-time, afternoons, evenings, and weekends (flexible schedule required)

Areas of Responsibility and Duties:

  • Constantly observe swimmers to detect potential risks or unsafe behavior.
  • Ensure prompt action in case of injuries or emergencies, including evacuating the area if needed.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging atmosphere that motivates and supports swimmers.
  • Adjust teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all participants by adhering to pool safety protocols and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Lifeguard certification (such as from the American Red Cross) and CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is preferred. Experience in swim instruction or water safety training is also preferred.
  • Ability to work with people Ability to swim proficiently and demonstrate swimming techniques.
  • Physical stamina to actively participate in and lead lessons.
  • Team Player
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Physically able to maneuver safely throughout the pool
  • Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs
