Invested Community Member?

Join the Build Up Roc Housing Initiative and become a "Housing Hero!" This unique opportunity offers self-advocates, families, nonprofits, local leaders, and community members a "seat at the table" to address the housing crisis in Rochester. Help us collect crucial data needed to create a roadmap to more viable housing options for people with autism and other developmental differences.

This is a call to action.

Let your voice be heard.

Step 2: Educate and Empower yourself regarding viable housing models for the A/I/DD community.

Step 3: Complete the Survey with a particular person with IDD in mind. You can fill out more than one survey if you have more than one person in your life that you would like represented in our data. Please assist self-advocates (as needed) so they can also fill out the survey from their perspective.

Survey information sessions were held from June 4th to June 25th in-person and virtually. If you were unable to attend, you may view a recording of the material to learn about viable housing models before you complete a survey. Our goal is to survey 500 diverse perspectives from individuals and families within our community. We are nearly 80% to our goal, and urge you to participate before the survey officially closes on July 15.

We don't know what we don't know, yet.

Get educated and be empowered.

Data opens doors! Many IDD statistics are outdated and no longer represent Rochester's diverse needs. To change this, AutismUp is partnering with First Place to conduct the first comprehensive housing analysis of this scope in our region. As project managers, we aim to make this process accessible and accommodating for all community members, especially those who are overwhelmed and/or feeling unheard. We are also dedicated to securing funding to cover associated costs of this analysis and keeping this initiative on schedule, so that our final report is ready before the end of the year. Please visit [First Place's website] to review their work with other regions

We are proud to be the first region in NYS to participate in this national initiative! Our region-specific final report will create the most significant impact for us locally, at least initially. However, being part of this project goes beyond Rochester. It is an opportunity to contribute to the greater good by providing data that will inform collective advocacy efforts nationwide. This is an exciting opportunity, and we would be honored for you to join us!
